African Festival of Arts and Culture

Saturday, September 28, 2024 (12:00 PM - 9:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Join us for a free and joyful celebration of African arts and culture in Iowa! Enjoy food, music, dancing and art from the African groups who call Iowa home.

When most people think of Iowa, they do not think of Africa or African culture. We are working to change that. The first annual African Festival of Arts and Culture will take place on September 28th, on the Iowa City pedmall. Over 30,000 African-born immigrants live in Iowa and the annual African Festival of Arts and Culture aims to celebrate and showcase their rich and diverse presence in our community. This event will feature a variety of activities including music and dance performances, art exhibitions, food, and displays about African culture. It will provide an opportunity for the broader community to learn about and appreciate the vibrant cultures of Africa, fostering a spirit of inclusion and multiculturalism.
