Community Lunch Connections

The Greater Iowa City, Inc. Lunch Connections bring together business professionals, community leaders, and city officials. All are invited to learn about city plans and events affecting business, local resources, and new opportunities. Join us for lunch, a brief program, and informal networking.

Venue: This week, we will meet at Big Grove Brewery. Registration is requested, preparing the venue to serve lunch in a timely manner, but drop-ins are welcome.

Program: Joe Conklin, Executive Director of Athletics Development at the Iowa Center for Development, will join us for an important discussion on the future of college athletics. A Davenport native and former Iowa football player (2008–2009), Joe brings a personal and professional perspective on these significant changes.

Joe will address the evolving landscape of college athletics in light of the pending House v. NCAA settlement. If approved, the settlement would allow athletic departments to share up to $20.5 million annually with student-athletes starting July 1, 2025. It also includes a $2.8 billion damages payment to former student-athletes, with District Judge Claudia Wilken expected to approve the agreement.

Joe will explain the impact of these changes on Iowa Athletics and outline how the Hawkeyes plan to remain competitive within the Big Ten Conference and nationally. He will also answer questions on these and other related topics.
